2 out of 5 stars Great materials, poor design   September 9, 2010

This pad is huge, which may be great for some but it doesn't fit anywhere on my desk for me. I also didn't like the gel pad, as it seemed to actually hurt my hand more to use.

Pros:
Great materials, both sides have unique and great surfaces
Stays in place well
Provides alot of space for your mouse if you want/need it

Cons:
Too big for the average computer desk unless you forgo the keyboard
The wrist pad actually hurt my hand

4 out of 5 stars Great surfaces and wrist support!   August 30, 2010
Richard Pelrine (Tampa, FL)
I bought this last week after reading several reviews. The surface option is fantastic (I use the quick glide side for gaming, and the control side for Photoshop CS3). My wife did complain about bumping the mouse into the wrist pad a few times, but I was able to show her that she was only using the lower half of the surface. My only complaint is that the logo on the wrist pad has already started to wear (i.e., flake) off after a week's worth of use, and my only reason for not giving this 5 stars. Other than that small detail, I'd highly recommend this mouse pad.

4 out of 5 stars Razer Vespula   August 24, 2010

Upgrading your mouse mat is something that most people would never think of in terms of increasing comfort and performance. There are many different types of mouse mats out there which all provide different feels. I was previously using the hard mat that came with my Dell XPS 730 tower. I'm using the control side and it definitely provides much more tactile feel which is what I want for more precise movements. I'm mainly using it for general windows use, photoshop/illustrator and the occasional Starcraft 2 game.

I've been using this mat for 2 months now on the control side. The razer logo rubbed off within a week of use, but that's something that they shouldn't have put there in the first place. There is absolutely no wear on the mat yet and the teflon feet on my Razer Imperator are holding up quite nicely. My main complaint is that after prolonged use the wrist pad actually causes more wrist pain. I've been using it without the wrist pad. The wrist pad provides for 90% of the grip which prevents the mat from moving. Without it, the only contact with the desk the mat has is with four rubber grips about 1.5" x 2mm in size. If you're pushing down hard on the center of the mat it will cause the mat the flex raising all of the feet off of your desk causing the mat to move, but that requires a bit of force to do. My only complaint with the Vespula without the wrist wrest is that the rubber pads in combination of the actual thickness of the mat raise the mat considerably off of your desk causing a pressure point.

I agree with several other reviews stating that the wrist rest is too small. It's long enough to support your wrist no matter where your hand is on the mat but not nearly wide enough. I just ordered the Razer Destructor as a replacement. I am pretty happy with the mat in general, but I didn't foresee the wrist rest causing me problems. I would recommend this mat still because you can still use the mat without the rest, but with my current desk situation my mouse sits higher than my keyboard making the height of the mat uncomfortable without use of the rest.

1 out of 5 stars Quality Control Fail   August 22, 2010

Well, this is the first mousepad that I ever purchased which was actually defective. It boggles the mind that you could manufacture a defective mousepad, let alone pawn it off for $35 dollars, but here we are.

Defect #1: Upon opening the package I noticed a scratch mark on the 'control' side of th surface. It looked kind of like if you ran a fingernail along a nail file in a straight line. Kind of a white residue but it won't go away. This was a minor annoyance that I could've gotten over.

Defect #2: I flipped the pad over to play with the 'speed' side. My mouse cord immediately got stuck on a ball of adhesive at the very top of the surface, on the black border. With a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol it took me about 5 minutes of solid effort to get rid of it.

Defect #3: The worst of the defects, the right side of the speed surface has 'bubbles'. You can push the bubbles and see the air move around, though they can't really make it out the sides which are well sealed. You can hear adhesive peel as you move the bubbles around. The result is that the right side of the pad is unusable in its current state.

Aside from those problems the surfaces are ok, not spectacular. My gigabyte laser mouse tracks well on it. I expected a smoother feel on the speed surface.

I didn't really like the wrist rest in the end, but without it the pad seems to slide backwards on me a couple of inches after an hour of gaming.

If it wasn't for the defects I'd probably give it 3 stars, keep it, and feel a little disappointed. As it is, this is definitely getting the RMA treatment.

The Razer package seems to be more marketing than substance. How else would you explain a $35 mouse pad with multiple defects, no "QC OK" type sticker that also comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity"? Yes, that's right, it comes with a certificate of authenticity. That's just plain silly.

This mouse pad has a great surface, comfortable wrist pad and solid design. I have owned gaming mouse pads before and this one is by far my favorite. I have recommended it to all my gaming buddies.
